Sleeping With Pets - Healthy Or Not?

A recent poll taken by Pet Place showed that 60% who responded sleep with their pets. Of course there is always a "new" study on just about everything these days and this is another one that alarms pet owners and doesn't take into account good old fashioned common sense. Anyone who knows me, knows I have had lots of pets through the years and my dogs, cats have more often than not slept in the bed. I am a healthy person and generally do not get many colds or other viruses. I do take a nutritional supplement but also my pets have all been vaccinated and are groomed and bathed regularly. I use flea control on my furry friends and am careful not to let them venture into places where they could contract something bad.
The health benefits of having a pet far out way any illnesses you could get. The affection received from a loving animal has been known to lower blood pressure and de-stress and the use of therapy dogs for the elderly and physically handicapped bring great improvement to their lives. In ancient times it was not uncommon for people to sleep with their dogs for warmth. Luckily the article contains other opinions on the subject that point this out.

Lawn & Garden Hazards in Dogs
This year I decided to have a lawn service fertilize and treat my front yard. Being the safe pet owner I also decided to leave my backyard to the dandelions and clover because Lilly spends so much time out there and I didn't want her to get any ill effects from chemicals. Besides the obvious lawn fertilizers and weed killers our summertime yards are full of things that can make our pets sick. Below is a great article from Petplace on garden hazards.
